Track Sectors
Three chicanes separated by short straights — the car has to rotate aggressively on corner entry and find traction on exit.
The long right-hander at Turn 6 into the hairpin — the slowest part of the lap and one of the best overtaking zones on the calendar.
Flat-out back straight, heavy braking for the final chicane, then past the Wall of Champions onto the pit straight.
About Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is laid out on the Île Notre-Dame in the middle of the Saint Lawrence River. It is a stop-and-go power track dominated by chicanes, heavy braking and a long straight ending at the notorious Wall of Champions. The combination of brake stress, rear-tyre punishment and frequent safety cars makes Montreal one of the season's least predictable Sundays.
Leading the race comfortably on the final lap, Nigel Mansell raised an arm to wave at the crowd entering the hairpin — and his engine died. Nelson Piquet inherited a stunning win.
Through pit lane drives, an early collision with Hamilton and changing weather, Jenson Button climbed from the back to win a rain-stopped epic on the very last lap, passing Vettel for victory.
Hill, Schumacher and Villeneuve all crashed at the same wall coming out of the final chicane in the same weekend — earning it the now-iconic "Wall of Champions" name.
