About Albert Park
Albert Park is one of motorsport's great hybrids — neither a true street circuit nor a permanent venue, but a temporary lakeside layout assembled fresh every March. The 2022 reprofiling widened corners, removed the old Turn 9/10 chicane and added a third DRS zone, turning the track from a qualifying-dominant venue into a genuine race circuit. A naturally low-grip surface makes it evolve dramatically across the weekend.
Jacques Villeneuve led his very first F1 race from pole — the inaugural Albert Park event — only to lose the lead late after an oil leak. Damon Hill inherited the win as the new circuit announced itself.
Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello scored a 1-2 for the brand-new Brawn GP team at the season opener — a story that became one of the most improbable championships in F1 history.
A chaotic late-race sequence saw Albert Park red-flagged three times. Verstappen won, but the Magnussen wall hit and the Sainz/Alonso restart contact made it the most dramatic Australian GP in years.
