Circuit de Monaco
Track Sectors
Sainte Devote, the climb up Beau Rivage and the daunting Massenet left-hander into Casino Square — elevation changes that no other F1 track matches.
Through Mirabeau, the tight Fairmont hairpin — the slowest corner in F1 — and down through Portier into the tunnel.
Exit the tunnel into the Nouvelle Chicane, then Tabac, the Swimming Pool complex, Rascasse and Anthony Noghes onto the pit straight.
About Circuit de Monaco
Monaco is the calendar's most iconic venue and its most idiosyncratic. The 3.337-kilometre street circuit winds through Monte Carlo with barriers millimetres from the racing line, and modern F1 cars have so badly outgrown the layout that overtaking exists almost exclusively in the pits. Strategy and qualifying are the entire story — drivers routinely set their fastest laps by braking later at corners where the margin of error is zero.
Mansell pitted late for fresh tyres and chased Senna for the final laps, lap after lap drawing alongside through Sainte Devote and Casino. Senna held him off in one of the great defensive drives.
Only three cars finished. Olivier Panis charged from 14th on the grid in the rain to take Ligier's only modern-era victory — the team's first win in 15 years.
Charles Leclerc became the first Monégasque to win his home race since Louis Chiron in 1931, ending years of personal misfortune at Monaco with a controlled lights-to-flag victory from pole.
