About Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
Spa-Francorchamps is the longest lap on the calendar at 7.004 kilometres and among the most loved circuits in the sport. It threads through the Ardennes forest in southern Belgium, climbing more than 100 metres per lap. Eau Rouge and Raidillon — the sweeping left-right-left at the exit of La Source — is the defining corner complex in F1, and "local rain" varying across sectors is a Spa Sunday tradition.
Heavy rain on the formation lap led to a 13-car pile-up exiting La Source on the very first racing lap. The race was red-flagged, restarted, and Damon Hill went on to win for Jordan.
A wet/dry Sunday saw Hamilton overtake Räikkönen at the Bus Stop chicane on the penultimate lap, give the place back, then re-pass the next time around. He was later given a 25-second penalty.
Sustained heavy rain meant only two laps were completed behind the safety car before the race was called. Verstappen "won" with half points awarded — the shortest race in F1 history.
