Shanghai International
Shanghai International Circuit
Track Sectors
The famous spiralling Turn 1-2-3-4 complex, tightening on entry then unwinding — one of the hardest sequences in F1 to judge.
Long right-hander Turn 7 and a pair of medium-speed corners where the car is on the edge of understeer all lap.
Enormous back straight feeding a tight left-right, then the final long corner onto the pit straight — a double DRS zone.
About Shanghai International
The Shanghai International Circuit is one of Hermann Tilke's most ambitious designs, with a layout loosely traced on the Chinese character "shàng" (上, "above"). The signature Turn 1-2-3-4 spiral tightens progressively before opening out again, and the 1.17-kilometre back straight feeds the calendar's biggest braking zone at Turn 14. Built on reclaimed marshland, the track sits on styrofoam blocks to prevent sinking.
Leading the championship, Hamilton ran the canvas off his tyres and slid off the pit-lane entry into the gravel — handing the points away. Raikkonen capitalised at the next round to take the title.
Three pit stops to Vettel's two left Hamilton with fresher rubber in the closing laps. He passed the Red Bull cleanly into Turn 14 with five to go for one of his most satisfying victories.
Shanghai's return after five years was a sprint weekend. Verstappen took both sprint and grand prix victories from pole, marking Red Bull's utter dominance early in the season.
